Identity: I am Loved
Updated: Oct 24, 2020
As a mom I dearly LOVE my children. When they were young I tenderly cared for them and enjoyed buying them cute outfits, books, games, puzzles, and things I knew they would enjoy. As they grew up I continued to nurture them and I still enjoyed buying them special treats and giving them things I knew they liked and would enjoy using.
Even now having adult children, I ABOLUTELY LOVE to talk with them and bring them special meals and special treats that I know will help them out and brighten their day. There is no question that I am going to help them out in any way I can as long as I am physically able – not because I have to but because I WANT to.
Several months ago my oldest daughter had her first baby and our first grandchild, a sweet, precious little girl. As a grandmother I quickly saw how much fun it is to buy things for this precious baby girl! And it is so easy to shop online and have it sent directly to my house - from cute outfits to teething toys to books to other special toys I know she will enjoy.
It is fun not only to GIVE the gift or special treat, but to SEE the reactions of those I LOVE when they receive the item or special surprise!
Because I LOVE them so much I want to spend time with them. I want GOOD THINGS for them! I want them to have a growing relationship with Jesus, I want them to have joy, I want them to be at peace, I want them to be healthy emotionally, I want them to be growing as individuals, I want them to be content and fulfilled, I want them to be healthy physically – the list goes on and on!
Gift giving is NOT my LOVE LANGUAGE, so it made me reflect on why it brings me such joy when it involves my children or granddaughter.
As I continue to learn more about myself, and become more self aware, God continues to take what I already know about myself and deepen my understanding of who I am and the part I play in His BIG PICTURE plan. He was again faithful in this situation. He reminded
me of the Bible verse in Matthew 7:11.
“So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.” (NLT)
Our Heavenly Father wants to give us – His children - GOOD GIFTS.
I love the way that God allows us to personally experience this with our own children so we can have some understanding of the parent/child relationship involving LOVING and GIVING as it relates to our father/child relationship with Him.
I was reminded of God’s ultimate GIFT to us – his CHILDREN.
“For God so LOVED the world that he GAVE his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (NIV)
God LOVED his children – me and YOU – so MUCH that he GAVE his one and only Son! He gave EVERYTHING to us because of his GREAT LOVE for us!
I AM LOVED! Say that out loud. Let that sink in.
Can YOU receive it?
Do YOU believe it?
That is part of who YOU are - your IDENTITY as a child of God.
There is such power in those words – I AM LOVED – they give us a sense of worth. They bring meaning to our lives. Knowing that I am LOVED by my Heavenly Father gives me an anchor to hold me steady throughout the storms that life brings. I don’t have to do anything to earn His LOVE. He loves ME (insert your name here) just because I’m His CHILD.
Knowing that I AM LOVED by my Heavenly Father and that he gives me good GIFTS – forgiveness, joy, peace, patience, kindness, discernment, wisdom, self control, victory, and the list goes on and on – allows me to face each day with confidence. The words I AM LOVED and John 3:16 have new meaning and give me purpose for the GIFT of life I receive each day when I wake up and I am able to get out of bed. I can go forth into my day resting in the knowledge that I AM LOVED.
