Have you fully grasped how unique YOU are? You are literally a one-of-a-kind creation!
Physical Body Parts

You probably know your fingerprints are unique, but did you know that your eyes, ears, gait, lips, teeth, toes, tongue, and voice are also unique?
If you’re curious, like me, and want to find out exactly how unique these body parts are to your own body, check out this excerpt from an article by Kelsey Kloss.
Emotions/Feelings
Not only are you unique in your physical makeup, you are also unique in the way you view and interpret life experiences. Two people can be looking at the exact same object in God’s creation and describe it totally different. One person can see the beauty and/or benefit of the object and the other person can see the downside and/or why it’s not useful. Two people trapped in an elevator together can both be affected in different ways emotionally from the experience. One can think of it as an adventure and the other one can be traumatized and fearful to ride in an elevator again.
Each one of us is different in hundreds of ways from another person who lives in the same location, speaks the same language and has had similar life experiences. When we reflect on all of the individual differences we each have, it is mind boggling!
There are so many unique things about YOU. How well do you know your unique self? Do you understand how God designed YOU?
Even if you’ve done some self-discovery work and feel like you know yourself pretty well, there is still one who knows you better than you know yourself. The Bible tells us that God knows everything about YOU because He is your Creator.
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139:13-14 (NIV)
“Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.” Psalm 139:16
God even knows how many hairs are on YOUR head. (Matthew 10:30)
"So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them." Genesis 1:27 (NIV)

If God created YOU in HIS IMAGE, purposed to know everything about you and dearly loves and values you as His child, aren’t you a little curious about all the unique things that make up the emotional, spiritual and physical whole self of YOU?! Maybe it’s time to get better acquainted with yourself!
Self-awareness will require slowing and being intentional in order to see results. It does not come naturally. The busyness of life and constant demands put on each one of us pull us away from focusing on who we are and who God created us to be.
Self-discovery and self-awareness can be so exciting! It’s so fun to have insight into why you respond the way you do in certain situations. For example, the reason why you NEED to be sure you have the correct date written for that receipt will become clear. This could be the way your Need for honesty/integrity or exactness is manifested in your daily life. Be warned though that sometimes we discover things that we need to explore on a deeper level. The good news is that this self-discovery work is a process. Once we become self-aware, we continue learning new things about who God created us to be. We can be confident that God is actively at work helping us reach the potential for which we were created. And don’t you want to walk with your Heavenly Father as He guides and directs you on this fun journey of learning who He created you to be and what He wants you to do?!
Needs
As unique individuals created by God, each one of us has core needs that are deeply rooted within us that drive the way we do things. For example, if you have a need for peace and quiet, you will probably not want a job where they play loud music every day all day long. When your eyes are opened to the basic needs that you have as a person, it changes the way you view yourself and others. Possibly for the first time, things make sense about who you are! Sometimes you discover that you have needs that are not being met. This is where self-discovery is so helpful to give you information and language to know how to move forward.
Values
Values are the framework you use in making decisions and what you do or how you express yourself after your needs are met. Values can also be the driving force behind your work and your passions. Because they are such deeply ingrained assumptions, many times you are not consciously aware of what your values are or how they shape your actions. Discovering what your values are can be a powerful exercise in understanding yourself. Just like your needs not being met, you may not be living a values based life. The activities on your calendar may not be reflecting the things that you most value.
When you understand how awesome and original YOU are, and that your Heavenly Father spent time making you a one-of-a-kind work of art in His image, you will want to learn all you can about who God created you to be! Needs and Values are great discovery tools to quickly learn about yourself! I’d love to help you discover your Needs and Values and evaluate how they are reflected in your life. If you are tired of having no purpose or direction in your life, and you are ready to gain clarity and move forward with purpose and intention, I invite you to participate in the Needs and Values Discovery process.
