Who Am I?

Have you ever asked yourself this question and

REALLY given it some thought?

. . . MORE thought than just listing the jobs that you DO

or the roles that you FILL in OTHER PEOPLE'S lives?

As a female and as a believer, it seems logical that you would immediately respond with, “I’m a daughter of the King! First and foremost, I’m a child of God.” These are descriptions that talk about who we are in Christ which is at the core of our identity as a Christian.

Identity Defined

Identity can be defined as who you are, the way you think about yourself, the way you are viewed by the world and the characteristics that define you – the things that make you an individual. In order to have a solid sense of identity, you must have a thorough understanding of yourself, including your own traits, preferences, strengths and challenges.

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10 (ESV)

When I was recently asked to write a few sentences describing myself, I really struggled with what to write. I did not want to only list the roles that I’ve filled as a wife, as a mom, as an employee, and as a business owner. Although these roles are noble, these jobs do not describe what makes me unique.

I can easily tell you my Meyers Briggs test result, my love language, and my Enneagram number. These personality tests are great tools to use as a STARTING POINT for finding out more about yourself. You can take the information these tests reveal and use it together with other activities for learning more about yourself to get a bigger view of who God created you to be.

I can also list things I have discovered about myself – things that bring me joy, things I dislike doing and where I find refreshment for my soul. I’ve discovered these things about myself because I’ve been intentional to spend time working on learning more about who I am. When I understand myself better, I can understand who God created me to be so that I can be most productive and fulfilled in the jobs that I do or the roles that I fill.

God has a job for YOU that only YOU can do. The world needs what YOU have to offer. Now is the time to LEARN more about yourself, GROW who you are, and equip yourself to SERVE the people in your circle of influence.
